1 killed in plane crash north of Helena

HELENA (AP) — Lewis and Clark County officials say a Helena man was killed in the crash of a single-engine airplane north of Helena.

Coroner Mickey Nelson says the crash shortly after noon on Monday killed 51-year-old Leonard Andrew Coyle. He died on impact.

A witness, Don Heide, says he was outside when he heard the noise from the plane's engine change. He says he saw the plane spiral down and heard it crash. He called 911. He said the only part of the airplane that remained intact was the tail section.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were expected to arrive Tuesday to begin investigating the crash.
