Laurel — Stuff the Bus is a program launched by Walmart, its employees and the Salvation Army to help provide needy children with the supplies they need to be a success at school. The program went well this year, and the students will be well-prepared for next week’s start of school.

Laurel — Firefighters have done a great job of battling against the odds for two of the nation’s most serious summer wildfires in southern Montana. Firefighters are risking their lives and members of the Montana Army National Guard have been called up for hazardous duty. They are putting their lives on hold to fight for the public.

Dart — Because of budget cuts, the U.S. Forest Service is running out of money to fight the wildland fires. Washington is dominated by Eastern politicians who know little about the dangers of wildfires, so it will be up to Westerners to fight for our rights.

Dart — Vandalism is never good, but there is something especially abhorrent about willfully creating damage at something like the Great Northern Fair, an event that is so much a part of Hi-Line community life.

Laurel — The Havre-Hill County Library has completed another successful Summer Reading Program. Adults and young people are encouraged to keep track of their reading over the vacation period.
