Concern about mosquitoes

As a transplanted, from Pennsylvania, Havreite, I am concerned about the mosquitoes. They bite often, and bite hard, all day and night, and flow into the house in a group, as well, within a second of opening the door.

Not being in the exterminating business, I want to know if the local pest controllers have the right toxins to destroy this vicious strain of mosquito. These are like the tiger mosquitoes that have terrorized Canada, and one cannot leave the house without full netting. The mosquito spray I am using is not working, and it's nearly impossible to sit out at night under a big sky of stars or peacefully walk my dogs.

Locals have said, the mosquitoes will be gone after the first frost, but I for one do not want to wish my summer away, like we are told ‘oh the winter is bad ...spring will be here,’ and so on.

Can we just enjoy each season, peacefully, safely?

Thank you,

Carolaine Peticca Schafer, Havre

I hear the county sprayers working later at night this year Carol. Probably long after you are off to slumber land. Have you checked your own rain gutters and property for standing water? Maybe the little buggers are breeding right on your own property while you are busy finding fault.

First off, the city has nothing to do with spraying; we have a mosquito district where $25 per year is assessed per household. Terry Turner is doing a great job with what he has; do you stupid people know you can't spray in the wind that seems to constantly blow here? I saw Terry out last night. If you think you can do better, step up or shut up! And Carol, all you've done is gripe since you got here.

Ok, they have sprayed more then that in a month. But the little buggers sure have been coming back very fast. And they HURT. The spray I have is very stongs smelling and greasy but it does work. I rather not smell that strong. icky. People have Havre have to work together. No standing water ANYWHERE.

I'm right beside you on this one. I live in highland park and the city has sprayed up here once or twice in the last month. You would think since west Nile is in hill county that the city would do more to protect the people but obviously not. Its pretty pathetic that people can't even go for a walk without using an entire can of bug spray to shield off the mosquito's
