The Havre High boys and girls golf teams are ready for the postseason. And, specifically, this Saturday’s Central A Divisional tournament at Prairie Farms Golf Course.

The Blue Ponies wrapped up the regular season competing at the Laurel Invitational on Friday. The 18-hole tournament was held at the prestigious Laurel Country Club, and the Ponies had a strong showing. Especially, the Havre High girls.

Just one day after winning the Billings Central Invite, the Havre girls shot a 393 team total to capture the Laurel meet. And for the second straight day, the Ponies were led by sophomore Payton Howard. She shot a personal best 89 Saturday, with 44 on the font and 45 on the back to place second in what was a tough girls field. Howard actually tied defending state medalist Christal Tokash of Livingston, but Tokash won the scorecard tiebreaker.

The Ponies beat Laurel by four strokes, and bested Central A rival Livingston by 31 shots. Randi Gabrielsen shot 99 for HHS, while seniors Boston Swensen and Katie Beck fired rounds of 102 and 103, respectively. Senior Nikki Gabrielsen rounded out the HHS lineup with a 132.

In a difficult boys field in Laurel, the Ponies finished in eighth place with a 360, but Havre did top all of its Central A rivals. Sophomore Jeff Miller shot 40-47 to lead the Ponies with an 87, while fellow sophomore Jerod Boles was one stroke back with an 88. Junior Wyatt Lindbloom shot 91 for HHS, while freshmen Kane Gabrielsen and Dustin Haas shot 94 and 97, respectively.

Now, the Ponies will get set to host the Central A meet, which will take place Saturday morning at Prairie Farms.
