Hawks win big; Knights get a forfeit victory

It was another tough week for local football programs, and if it wasn’t for one team’s big second half, the Hi-Line would have gone winless on the weekend.

The Northern C 8-Man Chester/J-I Hawks recorded the only local win over the weekend. Holding a slim 22-20 lead over the Great Falls Central Mustangs at the half, the Hawks went on to record a 50-20 win, also improving to 6-1 this season, sliding into second place in the conference, and ruining the Mustangs’ homecoming in the meantime.

The Hawks were able to run away with Saturday’s contest after a poor special team’s decision by the Mustangs. Heading into the fourth quarter the Hawks held a 28-20 lead, still a close game. But on the ensuing kickoff, starting the fourth quarter, the Mustangs thought they were letting the ball go out of bounds on the kick. But a hustling Justin May raced down the field and recovered the ball on the Mustangs’ 11-yard-line. Three plays later Dell Harmon scored on a two-yard run, the first of three fourth-quarter scores by the Hawks.

Great Falls Central was shut out in the second half as the Hawks came away with the dominating win.

May led the Hawks with 163 rushing yards, while Harmon racked up 160 passing yards. Cody Ramberg led the receiving efforts with two catches for 60 yards.

Wednesday the Hawks will go for another win on Wednesday when they face Cascade on the road.
