PSC to discuss NorthWestern deal Tuesday

The Montana Public Service Commission will take up the proposed sale of Devon Energy Co. assets on the Hi-Line to NorthWestern Energy at a meeting Tuesday.

The PSC held a hearing in Havre Oct. 4 that drew a large crowd with questions about the deal.

Commissioner Travis Kavulla, R-Great Falls, who represents the Hi-Line, said last week that the proposed sale of Havre Pipeline Co., from Devon to NorthWestern will be on the agenda for Tuesday’s regular weekly meeting. Other matters relating to the sale will be discussed at later meetings, he said.

Sale of the pipeline company is a key part of the deal, and Kavulla said he would like to get answers to questions raised by area residents.

He said PSC attorneys have conveyed the questions to NorthWestern. Many involved concerns about the status of Devon employees, royalties for gas payments and NorthWestern’s involvement in the community. He said he will make the responses public as soon as they come in.

If the answers are insufficient, he said, he will press for an explanation at the meeting.
