Moving forward on annexation

Havre City Council Monday gave tentative approval to annex areas west of Havre and then gave final approval to resolutions that annexed adjacent to the city.

The ordinance and resolutions were split into two items the council had to vote for due to the differences in the way they were being annexed.

Council first discussed and unanimously approved the ordinance to annex the stretch of land along U.S. Highway 2 that goes as far west as AmericInn. Council unanimously passed this ordinance, but will need to vote again at the next council meeting, Nov. 18.

Mayor Tim Solomon said that the council also needs to address a petition from concerned parties against the annexation of that area.

City Council unanimously passed the second item, which was the series of resolutions for the annexation of the rest of the patches of Hill County bordering the Havre city limit. These areas are of varying sizes and locations around the Havre city limit and can be reviewed on a map at City Hall.

The resolutions that address these areas will not need a second hearing. The process is done, Solomon said.

Other items of business included:

Council looked at a request to change the zoning designation of residential to commercial at 520 6th St.

Matt Springer and Robin Thompson want to conduct a “doggy day care and grooming business. The council referred them to the zoning board.

Council unanimously voted in favor of a wastewater engineering contract with Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services. The $8.9 million project will revamp wastewater facilities to bring them up to federal standards.
