Local Bowling Report: Youths can sign up for U.S.B.C league Sunday

Ten Pin Chatter

A reminder to all parents and U.S.B.C. youth members that this Sunday at 1 p.m. is the sign-up for youth bowling to commence on Nov. 24 at 1:30 p.m. Pee Wee (bumper bowling), Bantam, Juniors and Seniors are all invited to come and sign up. Bowlers will be able to bowl one game the day of sign-up at no charge.

TOURNEY TRAIL: Spots are still available in the Hi-Line Lanes Challenge Tournament to be held Saturday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. Men and women are both encouraged to sign up.

TEN PIN TRIVIA: Who bowled the very first 300? It will never be answered for certain because there are so many conflicting reports. A.B.C. credits W. B. Sellers of Brooklyn, N.Y., who tossed a 300 game in either Open Play or a match game — reports vary — in 1890. Ten Pin Bowling Australia claims the first 300 “anywhere in the world outside the U. S.” was rolled in 1963 by TBA Hall of Famer, Joe Velo in South Wales. In a nonsanctioned game, according to historian Jim Marqueratt, a 300 was rolled Feb. 1, 1881, in Hamilton, Ontario, by Frank Young.
