2 jailed on toddler murder charges

Two residents of Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation are in jail awaiting trial on charges of murder apparently stemming from the death of an 11-month-old boy Oct. 21.

Garrett “Kirby” Lafromboise, 21, and Cecilia Rose Gardipee, 22, both pleaded not guilty to charges of second degree murder/aiding and abetting; and assault resulting in serious bodily injury/aiding and abetting.

Both declined at this time to request a detention hearing and were remanded to the custody of federal law enforcement to await court proceedings.

The sparse information included in the indictment says the two are accused of killing K.S., who was younger than 18, on Oct. 21.

Kaidynce Small, 11 months, died on the reservation Oct. 21.

Regulations of the U.S. Attorney’s office prohibit the identification of victims.

In the short hearings on their arraignments — about 7 minutes long for each — the defendants said they understood their rights and the charges against them and waived the reading of the indictment, court records say.

Federal Magistrate Judge Keith Strong appointed federal public defenders to represent the defendants, and set a pretrial conference, which usually includes setting deadlines and trial dates, for Dec. 18.

An obituary that appeared in the Havre Daily News on Oct. 23, said Kaidynce was known as a “happy, adorable baby.”

“He wanted to be a cowboy for Halloween,” the obituary said.

The baby’s survivors could not be reached for comment this morning.

I saw his obituary in the paper and wondered how he had passed. How, absolutely horrible to know that he died at the hands of another human being. Nothing in life could be crueler. Rest in peace sweet boy!

I hope they get life in prison.
