Our View: Christmas wishes to all along the Hi-Line

Here are just a few of the people we at the Havre Daily News have met this year who we hope have a very special Christmas:

• Members of the Havre High School and local musical groups who share their exceptional talents with the community.

• The people of the Greater Havre Area Ministerial Association who have worked on several humanitarian projects that honor their religions. These people also help provide weekly columns for the Havre Daily News.

• Seth Ironchild, the 6-year-old Harlem youth afflicted with a brain tumor. He taught us how to handle adversity with pure class.

• Candi Zion and the many volunteers she has organized to run Recycle Hi-Line, the group that has done such a tremendous job of keeping things out of the landfill, helping to improve our environment.

• Barb Stiffarm and the whole staff at Opportunity Link Inc. who have played an important part in improving the environment and help needy people lift themselves up.

• The Havre High School Key Club, which organized one of the most splendid fundraisers we have seen in sometime. More than a dozen churches and other community organizations helped put on spaghetti feeds and other fundraisers for two local families who have children afflicted with disease.

• The whole group of people who help preserve the Hi-Line’s very intriguing history. The folks at the Fort Assinniboine Preservation Association, the Clack Museum, Havre Beneath the Streets, the Havre/Hill County Historic Preservation Commission, the High Line Heritage House Museum, the Blaine County Museum and the Rudyard Museum. These people all work with little or no pay. Their biggest reward is the knowledge that they will pass on to future generations the stories of how we work together.

• The thousands of people who have volunteered to make all kinds of community activities move forward — the volunteers at the Community Thanksgiving and Community Christmas dinners. Those who took part in Festival Days, Chinook’s downtown activities, volunteers at Rock Boy’s powwow, church activities and a host of activities that make the Hi-Line so special. We couldn’t possibly name all of you, but you know who you are. Do other communities have such volunteers? Sure. Do they have the number of volunteers of the fervor of their commitment? Not many communities.

• Parents at all area high schools who take part in booster clubs, music appreciations groups and dozens of other who help special activities.

To one and all, merry Christmas.
