Mildred 'Milly' Toldness

Mildred "Milly" Irene Toldness, age 95, was born to Arthur and Mary Ellen Thompson on November 17, 1918. Milly passed away on Dec. 27, 2013, at Northern Montana Hospital of natural causes.

She grew up on a farm in Red Rock Coulee north of Havre. Milly attended school in Havre, graduating from Havre High School in 1936.

After high school she worked as a mother's helper and a maid until enrolling in nursing at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Havre. Milly graduated from nursing school in 1942. She married Robert (Bob) Toldness on Sept. 24, 1942, and moved to Salt Lake City to be near her new husband, who was stationed nearby during WWII.

After returning to Havre, Milly worked as a registered nurse and was a private duty nurse for many years. She finished her career as the charge nurse at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepard.

After retirement, she and Bob moved to Coolidge, Ariz. and spent 25 years playing golf, socializing, and basking in the warm sun, often spending summers back in Havre to be near their grandchildren.

Milly moved back to Havre to the Eagles Manor in 2001 after Bob died in 2000. She remained there until her death. She made lots of friends wherever she was and will be greatly missed by them and especially her family.

Milly is survived by daughter Myrna (Jim) White of North Bend, Ore .; son Loren (Marie) Toldness of Havre; grandchildren Craig (Alexandra) White, Christine White, Jesse Toldness, and Rachel Toldness; and her great granddaughter Margot White.

Milly was truly generous. She was always doing things for others and her interests reflected that. She loved to cook for her family, and led exercise classes for her fellow residents at the Eagles Manor. As a nurse, a member of the community, a mother and grandmother, Milly was always caring for those around her. Milly always tried to see the best in everyone and to make the best of everything. She devoted to her family, who loved and appreciated her and tried to support her as she supported them.

Milly was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Earl, Warren, and Merritt (Tommy); and sister Lillian Holsapple.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at the First Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael O'Hearn officiating. Memorials are suggested to the First Lutheran Church (P.O. Box 66, Havre) or the Havre Salvation Army (328 3rd Ave.) Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
