Police: Carlson strangled girlfriend

Jordan Carlson admitted killing his girlfriend by strangling her, according to a narrative of his arrest given to the city judge.

A police report given to the judge elaborated on the call investigation that led up to Jordan Carlson's arrest.

Officers received a call from Dustan Carlson requesting officers and emergency medical personnel to Jordan's home at 620 1st Ave., Apt. 3. Dustan said he received a call from Jordan saying he had killed his girlfriend.

Jordan Carlson was standing on the front porch of his apartment when officers arrived, according to the report. He told the officers Dawn Beeman was lying on the living room couch inside. The woman was identified with a Washington state identification. Havre Police Officer Josh Holt then checked for a pulse and was unable to find one.

Jordan Carlson said he and Beeman had a small argument and he decided to leave the residence to go to the store, the report says. When Carlson returned from the store, Beeman would not talk to him. Beeman got up and he asked her if she was leaving.

"Jordan paused for a moment and he placed his arm around his neck then made a motion with his left arm slashing it forward," the report says. "Jordan made a sound as he did the motion. Officer Holt asked him what happened. Jordan stated that he strangled her."

Holt then placed Carlson under arrest at approximately 8:17 p.m. Sunday and took him to the police department. Carlson requested an attorney and no questioning was done, the report stated.

Carlson appeared Wednesday before City Court Judge Virginia Seigel, where he was formally charged with deliberate homicide. Seigel read him his rights and set his bail at $250,000. The judge also issued an order to appoint a public defender for Carlson.

His preliminary hearing has been set for 9 a.m. April 24 in Havre City Court.
