Blaine County fire guts workshop

A large garage and workshop adjacent to the home of Trish and Skip Taylor just east of the Hill-Blaine county line was gutted by fire Wednesday afternoon. Two antique cars and other vehicles were destroyed.

Havre, Chinook, Bear Paw Volunteer and Harlem fire departments were on the scene of the blaze, along U.S. Highway 2.

The workshop was owned by Mike Dolan. Skip Taylor and Dolan lost tools and equipment in the fire.

Vehicles destroyed included a 1960s-era Mustang, a Model T Ford, a camper and a pickup.

The fire had already engulfed the building when Chinook firefighters arrived on the scene around 3:30 p.m.

There were a series of small explosions as the firefighters tried to put out the fire.

The Taylors' trailer house, adjacent to the workshop, sustained some damage. The damage was confined to the corner of the trailer nearest the shop. Havre firefighters said the home was repairable, but the workshop/garage was destroyed.

No one was home at the time the fire broke out. Skip Taylor was in Havre, but arrived on the scene to confirm that his wife was out of the state.

Neighbors rounded up the two family dogs.

Chinook firefighters summoned help from Harlem, Havre and Hill County fire departments.
