MSU-Northern golf teams place sixth in Missoula

The Montana State University-Northern men’s and women’s golf teams wrapped up the Frontier Conference 2013-14 season with the annual Frontier Conference Championships Monday and Tuesday in Missoula.

The Lights and Skylights competed in the final 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament Tuesday at Larchmont Golf Course.

The Northern men finished in sixth place overall with a 1,013 team total. MSU-N senior Just Newton finished inside the Top 15, shooting rounds of 74, 76 and 78 to wind up in 13th place. Northern’s Nate Durocher was the next best finisher, with rounds of 88, 86 and 84 to tie for 31st, while Taylor Allery shot 91, 86 and 86 to place 33rd. Tanner Shanks came in 34th with rounds of 88, 85 and 96 while Stephen Carlson was 35th at 84, 95 and 91.

Westminster won the Frontier men’s title, beating Carroll College by four strokes. Meanwhile, former North Star Knight Jordy Donoven shot rounds of 74, 84 and 77 to finish in a tie for 20th for Rocky Mountain College.

In the women’s field, the Skylights finished sixth overall with a 1,221. Ashley Hooper was tied for 20th overall with rounds of 92, 93 and 95. Kirsten Bense came in 28th place with rounds of 100, 104 and 101, while freshman Molly Kreycik was 29th at 104, 105 and 99. Chinook’s Mikenda Seymour placed 31st at 116, 109 and 103.

The Lewis-Clark State women claimed the Frontier crown, defeating Rocky Mountain College by a whopping 12 strokes. The Westminster men and LCSC women advance to the NAIA national tournament in May.
