Elsa was born on March 9, 1920, in Ashley, N.D., to John F. and Katherina (Retzer) Spitzer. She was raised in North Dakota, graduating from high school in 1938. In 1942, she married Earl W. Dwello in Wolf Point, and the couple's union was blessed with five children. They lived in Wolf Point, Cut Bank and Kevin, working and raising their children, until Earl's death in 1970. Elsa relocated to Havre in 1974, where she worked in housekeeping at Northern Montana Hospital until 1984, when the birth of her granddaughter allowed Elsa to retire to care for her granddaughter. She lived at home until her death.

Elsa was a feisty woman who enjoyed crafting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, bingo, flower and vegetable gardening, reading, and "watching her programs" on TV. She absolutely loved spending time with her family.

Elsa was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Dwello; her son, Fred Dwello; her daughter, Marlene Moser Samuels; and her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her son, Dave (Wanda) of Conrad; her daughters, Earlene DeWinter of Havre and Colleen (Whitney) Tustin of Aurora, Oregon; her eleven grandchildren; her 14 great-grandchildren; and her special sister-in-law, Margaret Spitzer of Havre.
