Six Ponies honored for softball excellence

Havre High's Henderson, Majeres named Class A All-State for 2014

The Havre High softball team was a true success story this season. The Blue Ponies battled their way through the tough Central A Conference and went on to compete in just their third Class A state tournament in the program’s history.

Once at state, the Ponies beat Miles City 7-5 and played two more tough games before watching their stellar season come to an end.

And though the softball and spring sports season is over, the accolades for several HHS players aren’t.

Six Blue Ponies were recently named to the Central A All-Conference team, and a pair of HHS juniors earned Class A All-State honors. Junior shortstop Paige Henderson was named Class A All-State and First-Team All-Conference for the 2014 season, as was junior pitcher Rachel Majeres. Henderson was an All-Conference catcher for the Ponies as a sophomore but made a smooth transition to short this season. Majeres, in her first full year as Havre’s ace pitcher, was outstanding in the circle, and she also was one of the Ponies’ leading hitters this season.

Meanwhile, sophomore Dani Wagner was named Second-Team All-Conference at center field. Wagner, who hit three homeruns this season, and was one of HHS’s top three hitters, was named to the Central A All-Conference team for the second straight season.

The Ponies also had three Honorable Mention All-Conference performers. Shania Carlson handled the full-time catching duties for the Ponies this season and did an outstanding job. Harlee Boucher also earned All-Conference accolades at first base, as did sophomore sister Scout Boucher in right field.

Majeres and Henderson were two of just six players to be named Class A All-State from the Central A Conference.
