Havre school board OKs teacher contract

The Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees met Tuesday night to accept pay raises for the teachers of the district.

The raises were part of a contract between the school board and the Havre Education Association.

The increase will be different for every teacher, based on how long they have been teaching at the schools and their levels of education.

“There really wasn’t a set increase because what we tried to do was bring our teachers into line with other (Class) A schools in the state,” said Mike Arnold, the district clerk. “We were pretty good on the beginning teacher’s salary, but for our veteran teachers, we tried to get things up to par in that area.”

A teacher with a basic bachelor’s degree and no years of experience will make $30,291 in 2015, according to a table included with the school board meeting packet. In 2016, that amount will be raised to $30,897.

A teacher with a master’s degree and no experience will make $33,450 in 2015 and $34,119 in 2016.
