Donna May Kampf Knudson

Donna May Kampf Knudson, 70, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend died Friday, June 13, 2014, at Peace Hospice of Montana after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Linda Rose officiating. A private family burial will occur at a later date. Donna was born

May 28, 1944, in Havre, Montana, to Oscar and Margaret (Reyda) Kampf. She attended Havre public schools for her education. She was in the first first-grade class at the new Sunnyside school, graduated from Havre High School in 1962, and attended Northern Montana College.

Donna's first job was with Motor Parts Warehouse in Havre. She moved to Anacortes, Washington, and worked for a short time at Cedar Wooly. After returning to Montana, she worked at Sacred Heart Hospital in a variety of roles, and rounded out her work career working for the U.S. fovernment for 35 years both for the Selective Service Draft Board and retiring in 2001 from the Social Security Administration.

Donna married her best friend and the love of her life, Dave Knudson, on May 31, 1970. Together they raised four children. Donna and Dave were blessed to celebrate 44 years of marriage shortly before her passing.

Donna, along with her six sisters, joined the Eagle Auxiliary in 1969. This was the year her mother, Margaret, was the auxiliary's president. The induction of all seven girls at the same time received national recognition. Donna served as the auxiliary treasurer 1998-1999.

Donna had a special fondness for the Bears Paw Mountains, and she spent much time enjoying the beauty and solitude the mountains offered. Her favorite pastime was fishing. Whenever the weather permitted, she could be found at the first lake with a pole in hand. She was an avid reader, enjoyed camping, flower gardening; especially tending to her roses, loved playing cards, and staying connected to family and friends through social media.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Kampf and Margaret Kampf Matulka, her sister Marjorie Gatzemeier, and her son Rick Knudson.

Donna is survived by her husband Dave of Havre; daughters Danette (Craig) Butterfield and Vicki Billy, all of San Antonio, Texas; son Chad (Julie) Knudson of Havre, Montana; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn (Earl) Staples of Fairfield, California, Florence (Bob) Brown of Missoula, Montana, Joyce (Gerry) Malek of Lincoln, Montana, Beverly (David) Little of Fresno, California, and Patty (Larry) DeRosa of Havre; several nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends.
