Local Golf Report: Rotary Week coming to Prairie Farms

From Tee to Green...

Rain, wind, clouds, no sun, that seems to be the story of June on the local golf scene. But as the calendar turns to July, better golf weather is in the forecast.

And that’s good because the beginning of July will be a busy time for golf at Prairie Farms Golf Course.

July 8-10, the Rotary Club will hold its annual Rotary Youth Golf Camp. The camp, which is held at Prairie Farms, is open to boys and girls ages 8-18 at a cost of $25 per camper. It’s a great camp, with plenty of instruction for young golfers of all skill levels, and it’s also packed full of fun games for youth golfers of all ages.

Meanwhile, July 12, the annual Rotary Blast Golf Tournament comes to Prairie Farms. The tournament is a two-person, 18-hole modified stableford scoring tourney. It’s one of the more fun and competitive golf tournaments on the local golf scene, and it’s surrounded by plenty of fun events, including a pre-tournament round Saturday, as well as contests, a Calcutta and plenty of other fun things to go around.

To sign up for either of the big Rotary events next week, call or visit the Pro Shop at Prairie Farms.

Despite some ugly weather last week, the Prairie Farms men’s league was able to get the second half of the season underway.

Last Tuesday night saw Bing-N-Bob’s earn high-team honors with 23 points. The team was made up of Jeremy Jensen, Jeff Jensen, Lunar Evans and Bill Evans. Kyle Sheppard shot an outstanding 2-under-par 34 for low gross, while Paul Jensen was low net with a 30. Last Wednesday night saw Independence Bank earn high team with 24 points. The team was composed of Todd Smith, Dennis Murphy, Gene Harada and Byron Ophus. Matt Hedstrom and Jim Kato were low gross after each shot rounds of even-par 36. Jim Heberly was low net with a 30.

Ladies league action at Prairie Farms was rained out last Thursday night, and with the Fourth of July holiday upcoming, the ladies will be off this week. There is also no men’s league this week at Prairie Farms.
