Obituary - Rose Elizabeth Shaughnessy Gran

Rose Elizabeth Shaughnessy Gran, 74, passed away on Oct. 14, 2014, in Kalispell, Montana of natural causes. ,

Rose was born Oct. 31, 1939, in Missoula, Montana, to Thomas E. and Mary O. (Wright) Shaughnessy.  She was raised on the family homestead  in  DeSmet, west of Missoula. She attended DeSmet Grade School, Missoula County High School and the University  of  Montana in Missoula.

During her teaching career, she continued her education in foreign languages, not only in Montana, but also Mexico and Canada. She taught French, Spanish, English  and Latin in Billings, Hardin, Lodge Grass and Havre, high schools for many years and worked in the Havre Public Library following retirement, a job she dearly loved.

She married her life’s companion, Theodore M. “Ted” Gran in Billings, Montana, on Oct. 30, 1970.

Rose was an avid reader and a talented photographer. She was a talented poet and self-published a book of her poems entitled “Wren’s Tales.” She loved family get-togethers and a succession of family pets down through the years. She realized a lifelong dream when she converted to Judaism in May 2002.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; and one nephew.  She is survived by her husband. Theodore “Ted”; brother, Tom (Mary) Shaughnessy; sisters, Natalie (Edward) Hoff and Terry (Ron) Erickson; five nephews, and three nieces, including her very special niece, Eleanor Chorn.

Interment will be in Ronan, Montana. at a later date.  Buffalo Hill Funeral Home and Crematory caring for the family.
