Harada memorial benefit set for Saturday

After battling stage 4 metastatic cholangiocarcinoma and stage four mantle cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, local civic leader Janine Harada, 59, died April 25.

Nichole Artis, Harada's daughter, said the chili dinner and silent auction that was going to help pay for Harada's medical expenses is still set to take place Saturday.

"The benefit will still take place, but it will be a celebration of her life as well," she said. "She didn't want a funeral, so there won't be a funeral."

Artis said the proceeds from this event will be used toward medical expenses that have added up.

The fundraiser will take place at the District 4 HRDC Building dining hall at 2229 5th Ave. from 3 to 7 p.m.

Chili, buns and desserts will be served. The cost for the dinner is a free-will donation.

Donations can also be made through Bear Paw Credit Union into the account, "Janine Harada Medical Account."
