United soccer teams in action

After a weekend off, the Hi-Line United U19 soccer team was back in action this past weekend in search of its first win of the season. And while the United may have fallen short of a victory, they did notch a pair of ties, giving the team a positive result in just its second weekend of play this season.

The United played two games, both of which took place in Miles City last Saturday. The first game was against Big Timber, which ended in a 2-2 tie. Then, the United took on Miles City and played to another 2-2 draw.

In the first game, the United were led by Trey Scofield and Clifford Lenhardt, who each notched a goal to earn the tie. In the second game, Scofield again found the net and this time was joined by Mitchell Woods.

"While we didn't quite get the outcome that we expected, the kids showed a lot of heart," United U19 head coach John Harkins said. "They never gave up and I'm proud of them for that."

The U19 team may have been on the road, but the U14 Hi-Line United team was at home in Havre this past Saturday and lost consecutive matches to Laurel and Sidney, 5-1 and 11-1 respectively.

Max Olson scored the only game against Laurel but the United were able to stay competitive in the game thanks to strong defense from Rhoda Peterson and August Eacker. In the second game, the lone goal by the United came from Sawyer Manuel.

"These were our first matches after losing one of our starting goalies to a broken arm in Butte," U14 head coach Jayson Burrington said. "We had difficulty getting our passes to connect and our shots in goal. We are keeping our heads and we are working hard to improve. We are determined to keep working hard and believe that it's all going to come together for us."

The U14 team will be back in action this Saturday when they will take on Big Timber at 10:15 a.m., then Polson at 4:30 p.m. Both games will be played in Great Falls.
