Doll residence tapped as Garden of the Week

Press release

Bullhook Blossoms Garden Club has kicked off its new season of selected yards by recognizing the lawn of Keith and Bonnie Doll at 202 3rd St.

The house has a long history of stately lawns.

It was built in 1902 by Alexander Smith, known for his well-manicured lawns.

Smith later became Havre's street commissioner.

The current owners relive the tradition.

Bullhook Blossoms members lauded the Dolls, saying they have "meticulously and lovingly groomed the yard that sets off the period home."

Perennials dominate the flowers and foliage to enhance the lawn.

"Located on the corner, a bench beckons friends to stop, sit and appreciate the yard as well as downtown Havre," the garden club said in a press release.

Keith said the sanctuary in the backyard is secluded and a good place to entertain friends.

It features a brick patio, emphasizing Havre brick made in the early 1900s at the brick plant near where 4B's Restaurant in now located.

The birch tree in the center of the garden was planted when Keith and Bonnie's daughter, Ashley, took part in Arbor Day festivities when she was a second-grader at Sunnyside School.

"She is now 27 years old," Keith said.
