Cats, Griz honored

The Montana State Bobcats had two players named Football Championship Subdivision Preseason All-Americans, while the Montana Grizzlies had one.

Late last week, the Sports Network released its annual FCS Preseason All-American Team, and the list was topped locally by MSU senior offensive lineman J.P. Flynn, who was named to the First-Team Offense. Flynn was a 2014 Honorable Mention FCS All-American and a First-Team Big Sky Conference selection.

The man Flynn will protect this coming season, MSU quarterback Dakota Prukop, was named to the Third Team on the preseason list. Prukop will likely be named the Big Sky's Preseason Offensive MVP when that list is released next week in Park City, Utah.

The only player from the Montana Grizzlies to make the FCS Preseason Team was senior linebacker Kendrick Van Ackeren. The senior was an All-Conference selection a season ago, and is part of an outstanding trio of senior linebackers for the Grizzlies, who are under the direction of new head coach Bob Stitt.

Other Big Sky players to make the First Team were Eastern Washington wide receiver Cooper Kupp, Idaho State tight end Josh Cook, Southern Utah defensive end James Cowser and Portland State defensive back Kameron Canady.

Both the Grizzlies and Bobcats are now just three weeks away from reporting to fall camp. UM opens its season Aug. 29 in Missoula against defending national champ North Dakota State. The Bobcats start their season Sept. 3 at home against Fort Lewis.
