Havre Trails plans walks and hikes

Havre Trails is gearing up for a full series of lecture walks and hikes this fall.

A schedule of events will be released later in the month of August and will tentatively include a hike in the Sweetgrass Hills, a fall foliage photography walk hosted by Steve Helmbrecht, a stargazing walk in the Bear Paw Mountains, a botany walk hosted by Terri Hildebrand and more.

The first hike of the series will be Aug. 29. Havre Trails officials said the groups’ Facebook page will be updated with information about each hike before it happens.

Jim Lyons, the director of North Central Montana Transit, said that he may be able to provide transportation to each hike on a private bus that belongs to the institution and isn’t paid for by taxpayer money.

Plans for remodelling US Bank Park Trail will be discussed at next month’s meeting. Congress still has to approve the funds for the grant Havre Trails was awarded to give the trail a facelift. The Havre Board of Realtors recently awarded the group $500 to help with the project.
