Community healing events hitting Rocky Boy

The Second Annual Healing our Community Through Wellness Conference is bringing a multitude of interactive events to Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation.

The conference began this morning at 8 with breakfast and registration before the first of the series of talks that will be given through the three-day event.

Some of the topics covered today were public health, pharmacy, systems of care and medicaid. Each discussion, led by a presenter, is meant to aid the people of Rocky Boy and visitors in learning more about subjects that interest them.

Today will end with a comedy show from the “Illuminatives,” in the Little Bear Gymnasium at Stone Child College.

The entertainment for Thursday is Kiit Kiitokii, who puts on a hypnotist show and Friday will bring a talk of sobriety from Mike Scott.

The talks will all be held at Stone Child College from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. from today to Friday. Lunch and refreshment will be provided each day and there will be a community dinner nightly.

Trauma Incident Resolution training was held Sept. 8 to 12.

The series of talks and events are bringing speakers and leaders from all around Montana and beyond and the days are designed to bring members of the community together to learn, grow and heal, said tribal councilman Dustin Whitford.

“It’s to talk to our members and let them know that everybody out here has the potential to succeed in some type of career, although we do want to promote healthy lifestyles as well,” Whitford said.
