Speech and debate team to hold judging clinic

The Havre High School speech and debate team is holding a judging clinic Wednesday night at the high school library at 6:30 for people who have signed up to judge at Saturday’s tournament, and for people who would like to learn more about judging the events.

“We still have a few slots open,” head coach Tim Leeds said. “If people would like to come and see what is open, they are welcome, and are welcome to come observe Saturday even if they don’t judge.”

Leeds said the competition ranges from acting to speech events to debate, with rounds at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

A hospitality room for judges to fill out ballots, with refreshments and lunch, will be available at the high school. Leeds said the coaching staff will be handing out ballots for judges Saturday in the main office inside the north entrance to the high school.

He said Wednesday’s clinic will include going over the procedure on how to fill out the ballots, and answering any questions potential judges may have.

For more information, people can call or text Leeds at 406-552-9023 — he asked people to leave a message if he can’t answer right away — or email him at [email protected].
