Chamber looks at Job Fair for April 21

From The Havre Area Chamber of Commerce

The Havre Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a spring Job Fair for Havre businesses April 21. At the conclusion of the fall Job Fair, the 30 participating businesses felt it would be good to come back in the spring with another Job Fair.

The Chamber is reaching out to find more businesses interested in participating.

“At the first Havre Job Fair last fall, 30 Havre businesses participated. At the end of the event it was decided that a spring job fair should be held as well,” Chamber Executive Director Debbie Vandeberg said. “This is not a career fair but a job fair. The job fair will provide businesses access to candidates in a one stop environment, increase business awareness and provide an opportunity to meet with non-traditional workforce candidates.”

In conversations with businesses or at businesses meeting, the Chamber hears that one of the largest challenges facing businesses today is having a dependable workforce. The Chamber strongly believes in the need for workforce development as defined in the 2016 Strategic Plan:

• Workforce Development

An educated workforce is vital to community development. The Chamber will continue to partner with Havre Public Schools and Montana State University-Northern to connect business and education. A strong and competitive workforce is a must for business to grow, thus the Chamber will continue to provide education and resources to help develop an effective work force and a good work place. Northern contributes to the development of economic opportunities that help sustain our population and community infrastructure.

• Help to enhance the quality of the workforce.

The job fair will be held at the Sunnyside Intermediate School gymnasium. There would be no fee to have a booth. The Chamber will take care of the advertising, tables and chairs, participating businesses just need to bring what they will need to market their job openings.

The Havre Job Fair will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21.

People can contact the Chamber at 265-4383 or [email protected] by Friday, April 13, if they have an interest in participating. Participating businesses that will be showcasing positions at their business for high school students should notify the Chamber so it can get the word out to the students.
