Our View: Hi-Line darts and laurels

Laurel — Box Elder Bears have had a pretty good streak with its basketball team, but its hoops success may continue if the Box Elder Bots keep developing a basketball player of their own. The robotics club is developing a robot that can shoot mini-basketballs into mini-hoops. Congrats to the kids on their work. The need for people with computer skill is on the rise. Their work with the club will help them in the future.

LaurelHavre High School junior Emily Brurud is setting a fine example for adults in the Havre area by her work in fighting child hunger in the area. She is organizing a week full of activities next week to bring attention to the problem of hunger in the area. People will get a chance to donate food to Havre Food Bank and volunteer to work with the food bank or Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen. When you see bright orange wrappings on trees and fence posts in Havre, it will be a reminder that hunger is a serious issue in the area, and we should all work for solutions to the problem.

Laurel — Gov. Steve Bullock invited PayPal to locate in Montana after it put its expansion in North Carolina on hold because the state adopted legislation that will allow people to discriminate against gay Americans on religious grounds. We’d love to see PayPal locate in the Treasure State, and we think the company would love it in Montana, as so many others do.

Dart — While Montana has not adopted the mean-spirited North Carolina legislation, it should not have a clear conscience itself. During the last legislative session, it failed to adopt a Bullock-supported proposal to specifically prohibit discrimination against gays. Candidates for state office this year should be asked if they would support such legislation in the 2017 legislative session.
