Veis directs her first Fort Peck production in 2016 season

Press Release

Fort Peck Summer Theatre is eager to mount five exciting shows for the 2016, as well as host the Annual Performing Arts Camp, Dam Cabaret, and introduce their new Theatre for a Young Audience series, with a veteran Havreite performer switching from acting with the troupe to directing for the first time.

Pam Veis, a regular in both Havre's Montana Actors' Theatre and Fort Peck Summer Theatre, will direct "The Man of LaMancha" at Fort Peck this summer.

Returning for his sixth season at Fort Peck is Artistic Director Andy Meyers. In the off-season, Meyers was presented the Broadway World Phoenix Award for Best Director of a Musical for his work on "The King and I" at Arizona Broadway Theatre.

Meyers said he and the Fort Peck Fine Arts Council are "thrilled to welcome" the 2016 company that he called very balanced mix of returning favorites and new exciting talent.

Starting the season is "The Last Five Years," directed by Meyers and running June 3-12. Fort Peck alumni Daniel Crary returns to star opposite his real-life wife, Courtney, in this two-person musical that follows the excitement, learning-curves and turns of a young marriage. Known for its soaring music, the script tells the groom's story in chronological order, while the bride's story is told in reverse.  Plus, composer Jason Robert Brown is consistently one of the most requested after the Annual Dam Cabaret.

Veis' direction of "The Man of LaManche" will run June 17 to July 3, under the musical direction of Lizzie Hatfield. James Rio, whose credits include international productions of "The Phantom of the Opera," will star as Don Quixote. The Tony Award winning and Oscar nominated musical is based on the epic and timeless adventures of Don Quixote, as he searches for glory, love and victory. The score features "The Impossible Dream," a favorite of millions.

"My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra" runs July 8-24. Directed by Meyers and Megan Wiltshire under the musical direction of Luree Green-Chappell, this performance of Sinatra songs is set in a swinging speakeasy lounge, complete with onstage seating, a dance-inducing band and functioning bar.

Disney's "Mary Poppins" follows with productions July 29 through Aug. 14 under the direction and choreography of Heather Adams.

Fort Peck's next production is "The Woman in Black," set for Aug. 19 through Sept. 4. Meyers will direct the play, which was recently turned into a film starring Daniel Radcliffe. Two men enter a theatre with hopes of finding the identity of a mysterious woman in black.

Performance times are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 4 p.m.

For individual tickets or reservations, the Fort Peck Summer Theatre Box Office, at 406-526-9943, will open at the top of the season.
