MAT sets auditions for youth production of 'Band Geeks'

Montana Actors’ Theatre is holding auditions Tuesday and Wednesday for its 2016 youth production, “Band Geeks.”

The play will be under the direction of Oriah Pratt-Williams, Theron Williams, Scott Hamilton and Bethany Ordiniza

MAT is looking for youths who act, sing, play an instrument and march, work well with others and have fun, a promotional poster says.

Youths who can do those things should come audition for “Band Geeks,” the poster says. MAT is looking for actors, musicians for the pit orchestra and anyone interested in helping behind-the-scenes.

People who don’t know how to march will be taught, the poster says, adding, “Don’t know how to play an instrument? That’s okay! It’s called ‘acting’ for a reason.”

The audition will consist of:

• A short acting piece. People auditioning will be given an excerpt upon arrival.

• A demonstration of vocal range

• A prepared song of the auditioner’s choice to sing

For people who you can play an instrument:

•Demonstration of ability such as scales;

• A short sight-reading example

• A demonstration of marching skill. Auditioners will be taught a very short and simple marching routine is to test their ability to pick up and understand the concept of marching.

The auditions will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. each night in the Little Theatre at Montana State University-Northern’s Cowan Hall.
