Buffalo Jump slates moonlight tour

The public is invited to a moonlight tour of the Wahkpa Chu’gn Buffalo Jump Friday night.

The tour will be conducted with glow sticks and candles. People will be given the chance to practice with an atlatl, an ancient throwing weapon.

“People have always asked us to do something like this,” said Anna Brumley, manager of the buffalo jump.

The event starts at 9:30 p.m. at the interpretive center at the top of the jump, directly behind Holiday Village Mall.

Guests will take a tour and dine on buffalo meat, Brumley said.

After the tour, she said, Jim Magera, a retired Havre High School history teacher and a local history expert, will speak on the naming of the Bear Paw Mountains and local history events.

Sandy Wilson, director of Indian education for Havre Public Schools, will perform a traditional smudging.

Tickets, which are $15 per person, can be purchased at the buffalo jump from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. They can also be obtained 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily at the Havre 5th Avenue Laundromat.

Reservations should be made by noon on Friday by calling Brumley at 265-6417 or 945-3503.
