MAT throws pirate-themed dinner theater

Montana Actors' Theatre will be hosting a pirate-themed eighth annual Death by Chocolate dinner theater Sept. 10 in the St. Jude Thaddeus School's Havre Central Gymnasium.

The show, "Pirates of Havzance," will start at 5:30 p.m. and the main goal, MAT artistic director Jay Pyette said, is to entertain people.

Food will be served and four 10-to15-minute-long scenes of a murder mystery will be acted out throughout the night. The characters, Pyette said, will be based on current, living notable Havre residents.

"Most of them will be there," Pyette said of the notable Havreites who will be watching themselves.

There will also be games, prizes and raffles.

Raising money for the upcoming season is another reason for the night.

In addition to individual ticket sales, money also will be raised from sponsors who will have bought reserved tables.

At some point during the night, MAT will auction off the season's upcoming shows. They will show a scene from each play before taking bids.

The highest bidder receives the honorary title of producer of that show. Among the perks, for future producers, will be a fancy dinner for eight at one of the performances of said show.

Tickets cost for Death by Chocolate dinner theater are $40 each or $75 per couple. Tickets are available at Computer Center, Fiveheads, Bear Paw Meats, Greytak Realty and online at mtactors.com.

This season's upcoming shows are "Evil Dead: The Musical," "Hansel and Gretel," "12 Angry Men and 12 Angry Women," "Valentine's Day," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Black Comedy," "The Wind in the Willows" and "Spelling Bee."
