North Star rolls; CJI, Big Sandy win

As the calendar nears October, conference races start to really heat up in high school volleyball. And that’s exactly the case on the Hi-Line.

Last week started with a non-conference match for the Harlem Wildcats, as they took down visiting Hays-Lodge Pole at home. But the action really got going Thursday night.

In the District 6C East, the rivalry between Chinook and Chester-Joplin-Inverness is a big one, but Thursday night, the Sugarbeeters made it look one-sided as they dropped the Hawks by scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-21 to remain unbeaten in conference play.

In the win, Chinook got five aces from Taylor Neibauer, while Carrie Hofer had 14 digs. Kylee Vinson and Kimberlee Ghekiere each had six kills, while Peyton Hawks had 15 assists for CJI.

Another big 6C East match took place Thursday night, but again, it was one-sided. In Big Sandy, the North Star Knights swept the host Pioneers by scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-17. Sheridan Spicher had seven kills and three blocks, while Kate Hansen had 11 assists for North Star. Jaylynn Cline tallied seven kills and seven blocks for the Pioneers.

In Class B action Thursday, Rocky Boy was swept by Shelby by scores of 25-15, 25-5 and 25-12. Jill Top Sky had an ace and a dig for the Morning Stars.

In what turned out to be a big weekend for North Star, the Knights stepped out of conference play Friday night, but still won. North Star beat Sunburst by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-18, with Sheridan Spicher and Mystic Farinas each totaling six kills Farinas also had 13 digs, while Lily Pedersen had seven service aces.

And the 6C East action kept going Saturday. CJI bounced back with a sweep of Box Elder, by scores of 25-19, 25-11 and 25-20, with Kimberlee Ghekiere totaling nine kills and a block, while Khloe Kammerzell had five digs.

Big Sandy also rebounded with a sweep of HLP, winning by scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-17.

Meanwhile, the tough season continued for Rocky Boy Saturday. Playing at home, the Morning Stars were thumped by Choteau by scores of 25-4, 25-18 and 25-18. In the loss, Sean Henry had a kill and two digs, while Jaynah Gopher served four aces.
