People respond to storm's wintry aftermath

The snowfall that began Sunday night after 11 continued to fall well into Monday afternoon, prompting the city to send out the plows and respond to reports of downed branches and power lines.

Havre Fire Department Chief Tim Hedges said fire crews responded to three reports of downed power lines. He said none of the incidents turned into fires and that the lines were repaired and no one was hurt.

Director of Public Works Dave Peterson said the city had the plows and sanders out and working Monday morning.

A bulk of the city's task was concentrated on getting tree branches that fallen in the streets. Peterson said city workers got a lot of treefall out of the road and expects that to continue.

"Oh yeah, there's going to be a lot of cleanup happening for quite some time," he said.

Peterson expects branches to continue falling into today.

Media spokesman for NorthWestern Energy Butch Larcombe said this morning that he is not aware of any significant power outages in the Havre area. He added that it is possible for power lines to go down and power not to be lost.

Matt Moorman, observing program leader at the National Weather Service in Great Falls said five inches of snow had fallen by 11 a.m. Moorman suspected more had accumulated as the day progressed, but he didn't have the data to confirm that as of this morning.
