MSU-N harriers finish their second cross country season

The Montana State University-Northern cross country teams are new to racing still. Only in their second year, the Lights and Skylights are growing.

Still, the 2016 Frontier Conference championships was a tough learning experience for head coach Chad Spangler's squads. Northern was in Helena last Friday for the conference championships, where both MSU-N teams finished in last place.

The Skylights scored 157 points, while Carroll won the conference crown with a score of 36. Northern freshman Rachel David continued to shine though, as she placed 28th overall with a time of 21:10.71. McKenna Barkus also finished strong, coming in 36th place with a time of 22:12.56

The rest of the MSU-N women competing at the meet included, Kaitlyn Nystrom (45th, 23:03.38), Courtney Cota (47th, 23:16.58), Breck Don (48th, 23:19.67) and Savanna Rose (25:19.83).

On the men's side, the Lights scored a 182, while Lewis-Clark State won the title with a 38. Northern's top performer was Beau Hyatt, who placed 44th overall with a time of 29:22.96. Curtis Westenskow (45th, 29:23.55) and Riley Dennis (29:43.54) came in right behind Hyatt.

Rounding out the scoring for Northern was, Tristen Belgarde (51st, 30:29.46), Sundance Lodge (53rd, 32:49.55), Justin Seevers (55th, 34:29.21) and Patrick Yuhas (36:26.04).
