Havre man accused of incest arrested Monday

A Havre man accused of molesting an 11-year-old relative was apprehended by Hill County sheriff’s deputies Monday afternoon at the Bitterroot trailer court.

Theodore Dana Slate, 69, is charged with one count of felony incest.

Charging documents say the Hill County Sheriff’s Office received a call May 17 from a woman who said Slate had molested her 11-year-old step-sister. The woman said she’d heard from Slate’s adult children and other relatives that he’d been accused of sexual abuse in the past.

Documents say the woman said she asked her sister if there had been any abuse by Slate after starting to see signs of sexual abuse in her. Documents say the 11-year-old told the woman that Slate had showed his genitalia and asked her to touch him in various ways, which she said she did. After this, the woman said, the girl and her brother were sent to live with Slate’s family in Colorado.

On June 10, Palisade Police Department officers conducted a forensic interview with the 11-year-old girl. Documents say the girl told officers that Slate masturbated in front of her in different ways, and showed her pornographic videos, and that the incidents happened in Havre and Colorado Springs.

Slate agreed July 3 to a recorded interview with a Hill County sherrif’s deputy.

Slate told the deputy that he was a member of an online site where members engage in sex while on camera, and that the girl caught him while “caming” — “performing sexual acts while on video while connected to others by video or internet,” documents say.

Slate said the girl told him he didn’t need to cover up and that she wanted to touch him in a sexual manner. Files say “Slate admitted” to letting the girl touch him, even though he knew it was wrong, and that it happened several times in Colorado and Montana.

Slate told the deputy that the girl would show herself naked to him and perform sexual acts on him.
