Chinook's Tate Niederegger is one of three local players who were named Class C All-State from the Northern C Conference.
As far as conferences go in 8-Man football, there may be none more difficult than the Northern C and this past season, was no different.
The 10-team league, which welcomed in Hays-Lodge Pole this season, has had a good postseason run the past few years, but with Belt’s loss in the state semifinals last week, it will be the first time in a few years that the Northern C is not part of the state title game.
That means, that the time for postseason awards is here as the Northern C All-Conference and All-State selections were recently announced. In terms of local players, there were three that garnered All-State honors in the ranks of 8-Man football, as Tate Niederegger of Chinook, as well as Cory Kelly and Cory Richter of Chester-Joplin-Inverness were all named Northern C All-State selections.
Niederegger, who is a First Team All-Conference selection at running back, also earned Second Team All-Conference honors at inside linebacker. Kelly earned First Team All-Conference honors at defensive end, while being named to the Second Team as an offensive guard. Richter was Second Team on both offense and defense, earning spots on the team at both quarterback and defensive back after a stellar senior season, one in which he helped guide CJI back into the playoffs.
Clark Diemert of CJI earned Second Team All-Conference honors at wide receiver, while Brett Henke ended up on the Second Team as a running back. Mitchell Fisher earned honorable mention for the Hawks at fullback.
Diemert was named Second Team All-Conference on defense at outside linebacker, while Henke was honorable mention at inside linebacker.
Belt, which won the league and had a perfect regular season record, finished with 11 First Team All-Conference selections and six that made All State. The All-State honorees were Harry Green, Jaren Maki, Jess Bodner, Keagan Stroop, Taylor Olson and Troy Hennes. Coulton Lewis and Tyler Stevens of Great Falls Central also made the All-State squad as did Garrett Fritz of Power-Dutton-Brady.
