Skylights move up in NAIA Poll

The Montana State University-Northern Skylights have lost two tough games in their last three outings. But, those losses have come against the now No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the NAIA.

And that’s a big reason why the Skylights (8-2, 1-1) moved up five spots in the new NAIA Women’s Coaches Poll, released Tuesday afternoon. Northern jumped from No. 16 to No. 11 in the poll, and the Skylights are one of four Frontier Conference schools in the Top 25. Northern’s two losses this season came at the hands of Freed-Hardeman, which is now ranked No. 1, and Lewis-Clark State, which is ranked No. 2 in the new poll.

Similarly, the UGF Argos moved up, despite losing to LCSC last week as well. In the new poll, the Argos moved up four spots to No. 14. Carroll College remained at No. 25, while UM-Western is receiving votes.

The MSU-Northern men also are nearing the Top 25 as well. The Lights received 36 votes in the NAIA Men’s Coaches Poll, which would put them at No. 28. Northern is unbeaten on the season and just knocked off then No. 15 LC State last Saturday night. The Warriors dropped all the way out of the poll, while Carroll College moved up to No. 6 and UM-Western moved into the Top 25, all the way at No. 17.

The Lights and Skylights have this weekend off, but will return to action next Thursday when they both host Nueta Hidatsa College at the Armory Gymnasium.
