Frames bring food to Havre Food Bank

Another local business has wrapped up a drive to help Havre Food Bank help people in need this holiday season, with Havre Optometric Clinic donating 204 pounds of food collected through its Food for Frames food drive.

Optician Cathy Litzinger said the collection ran for about a month, with the clinic giving people free eyeglass frames when they brought in a bag filled with food or made a monetary donation to the Food Bank.

"It's really important for us to give back," Litzinger said. " ... We wanted to do something."

"It's been pretty successful," she added.

The Optometric Clinic's drive is the latest in several fundraisers and food drives, including The Key in the Holiday Village selling Christmas ornaments to benefit the food bank and the annual Everybody Loves Firefighters food drive held in October.

Litzinger said this is the first year the clinic has held Food for Frames, but that it might continue in the future.

She added that the clinic is considering running the food drive during the summer instead of the holiday season, though.

"This time of year, every body is donating to the food bank, but they kind of get forgotten in the summer," LItzinger said.
