Grief Poem - When Two Were One

Long time ago, a boy, a girl, in love, they said “I do!”

In front of kin with flowers, lace; God said, “Now you’re one – not two.”

“I love you more and more my dear, I’ll never let you go.

I’m glad you’re mine, I’ll never, never, never let you go.”

Some ups and downs, life goes along, with love, sunshine and fun.

There’s work and play, time seems to fly, but usually jobs got done.

Remembering how he liked her looks, she’d tease, “You sure look fine.”

Then added that she sure could cook and, “I’m so glad you’re mine.”

You’ve made me happy through the years, your hugs – like sun above.

With each bright, brand new tomorrow, ‘I adore you, my love.’

So many things we got to do, and traveling, too, my dear.

And then there comes an end of life, Guardian Angel draws near.

He loved to hear her read to him, Angel watched from the moon.

He knew a new day would not come, he flew away at noon.

They waved good-bye from edge of moon; Angel and ‘Love’, they’re gone.

The Autumn wind whispered a song, somehow we’ll carry on.

Once two were one, though now one’s gone, ‘one’ left feels incomplete

Still life goes on while ‘time’ flies by, but someday soon, we’ll meet!

Our loved ones are beyond our sight — remembering brings a tear.

But someday when we travel there, I’ll bet we’ll hear a cheer!

Now when we see the Cross’s beam, or see the bright full moon,

Somehow we know earth’s life is short, we’ll see our ‘love’ real soon.
