Weather Service presents two awards to local residents

National Weather Service presented awards to two sets of weather observers for their work collecting data for the last decade-and-a-half.

Weather Service presented 15-Year Length of Service awards was presented to Durwin Williams of Chinook and to Merlin and Pat Wolery of Rudyard for taking and reporting daily weather observations.

Williams takes observations at his official weather station in Chinook. The daily observations consist of maximum and minimum temperatures, precipitation, snowfall and snow depth.

The weather station was established in Chinook in January of 1896 and was moved to several locations in and around town over many years before being moved to its current location in June 2001.

The Wolerys take and report daily observations that consist of maximum and minimum temperatures, precipitation, snowfall and snow depth. The Wolery's weather station that began records in October 1998 and is located north of Rudyard is part of the NWS Climate Cooperative Observer Program that comprises about 10,000 volunteers across the US.

Matt Moorman, observation program leader at the National Weather Service in Great Falls, presented the awards to Williams and the Wolerys.
