Local Golf Report: A week of aces at BCGC

From Tee to Green...

It’s a big week for golfers of all ages in the area. Especially for those at Havre High School.

Yes, the Blue Pony golf season is now officially underway, with the HHS girls competing through today at the Great Falls Invitational. The Blue Ponies will then turn their attention to Prairie Farms Golf Course and the Havre Invitational.

It also won’t be long until school starts at Montana State University-Northern, and that means the return of golf for the Lights and Skylights.

So let me take this time to wish all golfers, high school and college, and their coaches, best of luck on the upcoming season. Check here, and all across the sports pages of the Havre Daily news for complete high school and collegiate golf coverage.

It’s actually a really big week all the way around at Prairie Farms. The ladies have narrowed it down to two teams in their playoff, while the men’s league begins their playoffs tonight.

Last week in ladies league, Northern Montana Hospital beat Havre Heating & AC 19.5-16.5 and Independence Bank downed Patrick Construction 25.5-10.5 in the semifinals. Carol Culp was low gross with a 40, while Terry Lilletvedt was low net with a 29.5. The ladies will hold their championship match this week.

The men’s regular season came to an end last week. On Tuesday night, Wagner Plumbing was high team with 25 points. The team was composed of Dan Wagner, Russ Earl, Dan Kiederowski and Shawn Keeley. Jeremy Jensen was low gross with a 1-under par 35, while Jacob Lorang was low net with a scintillating 26. Last Wednesday night saw Independence Bank take high-team honors. Mason Sheppard, Byron Ophus, Todd Smith and Gene Harada made up the squad, scoring 22 points. Jim Kato was low gross with a 35, while Scott “Butchy” Miller was low net with a 29.5. He’s my teammate by the way, but geez, Scott, how many low nets is that now?

Now its on to the playoffs at Prairie. Tonight’s first round will pit Wagner Plumbing against Patrick Construction, Hole 19 against Michelob Light, Northern Edge versus D.A. Davidson, Stockman Bank taking on Gallery Lounge, Korb Construction against Milk River Engineering, BKD Law versus Valley Furniture, Bing-N-Bob’s against BPCU and Havre Ford battling Master Sports.

The eight teams that advance tonight will play in the quarterfinals Wednesday. The semifinals will be played next Tuesday night.

Men’s league at BCGC also ended its regular season last week, and will start the playoffs Thursday night. Last week saw Droppin A Deuce take high-team honors with 25 points. A.J. Lamere, Shane Patacsil and Gus Bacon made up the team. Dustin Haas was low gross with a 2-under 34, while Ned Malone was low net with a 29. The first round of the playoffs will feature New Concept Lawn against S&M Construction, Nalivka’s taking on CS&S Labs, Vine 19 versus Valley Furniture and Droppin A Deuce against Grip It n Sip It.

It was also a busy week last week at BCGC for aces. Last Tuesday, Ed Stamper scored a hole-in-one on the par 3 eighth hole. Stamper made the shot with an eight iron from 180 yards. On Sunday, Shane Patascil also recorded an ace on the par 3 fourth hole, using a seven iron from 162 yards. Congrats guys.
