Liverpool marathoner crosses nation third time in fundraiser

Rob Pope of Liverpool, England, runs along U.S. Highway 2 west of Kremlin. Veteran marathon-runner Pope is emulating the coast-to-coast runs of title character Forrest Gump from the 1994 movie in a fundraising effort for The World Wildlife Fund and Peace Direct.

In a fundraiser inspired by the 1994 movie "Forrest Gump," Rob Pope from Liverpool, England, is running across the United States for the third time, and was passing along the Hi-Line Wednesday on U.S. Highway 2.

Pope started his runs at 38, beginning in Mobile, Alabama, and running all the way to Santa Monica, California, 2,042 miles.

He then turned around and ran all the way to Marshall Point Lighthouse in Maine, a 3,186-mile trip crossing 18 states.
