Man crosses Hi-Line running as Forrest Gump

Liverpool marathoner crosses nation third time in fundraiser

In a fundraiser inspired by the 1994 movie "Forrest Gump," Rob Pope from Liverpool, England, is running across the United States for the third time, and was passing along the Hi-Line Wednesday on U.S. Highway 2.

Pope started his runs at 38, beginning in Mobile, Alabama, and running all the way to Santa Monica, California, 2,042 miles.

He then turned around and ran all the way to Marshall Point Lighthouse in Maine, a 3,186-mile trip crossing 18 states.

After reaching Marshall Point Lighthouse, Pope again turned around and started his third run across the United States, and Tuesday reached Havre, 2,511 miles from Marshall Point Lighthouse.

Pope is re-enacting Forest Gump's run across America to raise funds and bring awareness about two organizations, The World Wildlife Fund and Peace Direct.

Running across America is more than the length of 100 marathons, which are 26.2 miles each.

Pope is a veteran marathoner. He won the Australian Marathon Championships in 2015 and the Liverpool Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in 2015 and 2016.

When he finishes this third run across the United States he will have run the equivalent of more than 329 marathons.

When sighted just west of Kremlin, he had finished 7,764 miles across the United States with just 900 miles to go on this trip, which will put his running total to about 8,700 total miles.

Now, at the age of 39, he is running across the northern states to end in Oregon. Pope then plans to go to San Francisco and decide if he will do a fourth run back to the East Coast.

People can find out more about this enormous run, Rob Pope and the fundraiser online on his web page at http://www.goingthedistancerun.com. On the page, Pope lists ways to donate to the causes and to help him and his girlfriend, Nadine - Lt. Nad - and support staff, as well as a link to her blog.

His page says Pope and his girlfriend welcome any help from local people along the way including:

• Physiotherapists and sports therapists

• Doctors, dentists, nurses

• RV parks, gas stations, convenience stores and restaurants

• Local media and marketing representatives

• Friendly people with a spare bed, a big bowl of chili that needs eating and somewhere to park.

"...and of course: RUNNERS!"
