LaFond State Farm in second year of school supply drive

Although the originator of last year’s back-to-school supply drive moved on, the employees of Tom LaFond State Farm are aiming to continue the annual supply drive.

Office Manager Angela Twombly said last year was such a success that the office employees would love to be able to help area students in the same capacity this year.

Students at all three public Havre elementary schools, along with those at St. Jude Thaddeus School as well as some Havre Middle School students, received necessary supplies last year.

In addition to the basics of pencils, notebooks, coloring crayons and pencils, Twombly said, they were able to donate Play-Doh, blocks, backpacks, calculators and more.

“We’d like to repeat that,” she said. “This is a worthwhile cause.”

Twombly said they had put in for a Thrivent Action Team application and were granted $250 to start with. Now it is time to begin collecting more, she said.

In place of Simone Smith, the former employee who started the drive after seeing a girl have to put back supplies in the checkout lane of Walmart, is Zack Rotkvic. Together with Twombly and Bobbie Dolphay, the office crew hopes to put a dent in the needs of children in the community.

The goal, Twombly said, is to get everything distributed by Labor Day.

People who would like to donate can drop items off at the office at 327 Third Street.

It’s as easy as buying a few extra items, twombly said.

“If you’re going shopping already, pick up an extra notebook, or some pencils,” she said.
