Local Golf Report: BCGC men's champions crowned

From Tee to Green...

The golf season is most certainly winding down, though the golf weather isn’t looking like it’s going away anytime soon.

But, alas, eventually the clubs will have to be put away. Still, there is plenty to talk about, and last Thursday night the Beaver Creek Golf Course men’s league held its championship match. In the finale, Nalivka’s defeated Grip It N Sip It 22.5-13.5 to win the men’s title for the second straight summer. The winning team was composed of Kyle Miller, Paul Jensen, Tanner Veis and Matt Jensen. The second-place squad was made up of Daryl Wright Jr., Frank Henry, Adam Demontiney and Neal Rosette Jr. Congrats to both teams.

BCGC will also contest its Men’s Club Championship this Sunday.

While the local amateur golf scene is coming to a close, the college golf scene is just getting started, and Montana State University-Northern head golf coach Dave Boles is excited about this season — especially the fall, and especially this weekend.

The Northern golf team will play host to a Frontier Conference tournament for the first time in years, as the Lights and Skylights will use Marias Valley Golf Club to host the MSU-Northern Invitational Sunday and Monday. The 54-hole tournament will include Northern, Montana Tech and the University of Providence.

This year’s Lights roster includes top returnees Devin Bray and Jerod Boles, as well as Trent Nowell, Ethan Partch and former Lewistown standout Zach Hould.

The Skylights will have a standout of their own this season after former Kalispell Glacier star Jenna Jensen transferred to Northern from Corban College. The MSU-N women’s roster will be strong this season with returnees Whitney Bahrns, Diana Ball and Carrigan Cummings.

The Lights and Skylights will also compete at the Carroll College Invitational and the Lewis-Clark Invite this fall, while the Frontier Conference championships will be held in Tempe, Arizona, next spring.

For full coverage of the MSU-Northern Invitational, see next week’s From Tee to Green.

Also, a reminder to all local golfers, From Tee to Green will wrap up Sept. 19, so any information you would like published needs to be sent before either next week’s column, or before the final column of the year on Sept. 19.
