Local Golf Report: MSU-N hosts own invite in Shelby

From Tee to Green...

More championships were handed out as the local golf circuit continues to wind down for the season. And, oh by the way, there's actual, honest to goodness rain in the forecast.

Sunday, Beaver Creek Golf Course held its Men's Club Championship. The overall winner was Kyle Miller, who fired a 2-over par 74 to take first place, and the crown of BCGC Club Champion. Way to go Kyle.

Bill Schilling was second in the Championship Flight with an 82, while C.J. Evans was low net with a 71. Scott Miller won the Second Flight with an 83, while Dennis Murphy was low net with a 68. Curtis Monteau won the Third Flight with an 82, while Ryan Callahan was low net with a 60. Tony Woods won the Fourth Flight with a 91, while Pete Stiffarm was low net with a 67. In the Seniors Flight, Maynard Limberhand was first with a stellar 82, while Tom Heninger was low net with a 71. Lorrie Keller won the women's championship.

On a personal note, let's recap. I had a cousin win this tournament, an uncle win low net, one of my bosses also won a low net and several former tennis players also do quite well. Looks like my great golf skills have rubbed off on a lot of people close to me. Only kidding. Great job guys.

Prairie Farms Golf Course also conducted its Women's Club Championship Sunday. Ali Ward fired an 86 to win the club championship, while Teresa Brown was low net with a 66. I heard it was a great turnout for the tournament, and congrats to all the ladies on a great day.

Prairie Farms had a hole-in-one on Monday as well. Lee Schuster recorded his first career ace, as he sank it on the par-3 fourth hole with a 6-iron from 140 yards. Way to go, Lee.

Meanwhile, the Montana State University-Northern golf teams held their own championships over the last two days, as Northern conducted the first MSU-Northern Invitational in some time. The tournament was held at Marias Valley Golf Club Sunday and Monday in Shelby.

Rocky Mountain College swept the team titles, while Gina Kowolchuk of Providence won the women's title and Sean Benson of Montana Tech was the men's champion, winning in a one-hole playoff.

The Skylights didn't have enough players for a team score, but they did have Jenna Jensen, who finished in fifth place with a 162. She shot excellent rounds of 82-80. Diana Ball was the only other Skylight to compete, finishing in 34th place with rounds of 103 and 105.

For the Northern men, the Lights finished sixth, with Devin Bray finishing in 23rd place overall with scores of 74-82-76. Jerod Boles finished 37th with rounds of 84-92-78, Trent Noel was 38th with scores of 111-104-98 and Ethan Partch was 39th with rounds of 108-112-110.

The Lights and Skylights have two more tournaments this fall, heading to Spokane Sept. 18-19 and the Lewis-Clark State Invitational Oct. 2-3.
