Local Golf Report: This rain was a beautiful thing

From Tee to Green...

What can you say about the last week on the local golf scene other than, Hallelujah! The rains finally came.

Now, I certainly could have lived without the 40-plus degree high temperatures that came with the rain last week and through the weekend, but I, like every other native Montanan, certainly can’t complain.

I don’t know how much rain we received locally, but I know it was a great start, and I know it was certainly appreciated by our local greens keepers, who have battled a hot and dry summer for sure.

Of course, the best news about the rain and snow that hit Montana was how much it helped with all of the wildfires. No matter how much precipitation we received, what it did for those fires was nothing short of a miracle.

And for the rest of the fall, maybe we can all play golf without breathing in acrid smoke. Won’t that be nice.

As far as local golf news, there isn’t much left. Courses will be open for a long while yet, but leagues and most tournaments are over for the year.

The Montana State University-Northern golf teams have two meets left this fall season. The Lights and Skylights are in Spokane, Washington, right now playing in the Red Lion Classic, and we’ll have those results in next week’s final From Tee to Green. Northern finishes up the fall at the Lewis-Clark State Invitational the first week of October.

Yes, next Tuesday will be my final golf column of the year. I know, try not to be too sad. So, if anyone wants anything published in that final column, please email that information to [email protected].
