GOP Senate candidates in Havre Saturday

Four Republicans vying to be their party’s nominee in next fall’s U.S. Senate election, will speak at the Hill County Republican Party’s Fall Harvest Dinner this Saturday.

Hill County Republican Party Chair Andrew Brekke said attendees will get to meet state Sen. Al Olszewski, R-Kalispell, state Auditor Matthew Rosendale and businessmen Troy Downing and Ron Murray.

The eventual nominee will go up against Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., a Big Sandy farmer who is running for his third term.

Representatives from the offices of Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont, Rep. Greg Gianforte, R-Mont., and Republican Attorney General Tim Fox will be at the dinner.

This year will be the first Fall Harvest Dinner for the Hill County Republican Party, Brekke said. The dinner of prime rib and prawns is $50 per person and will be at the Havre Inn & Suites. A cocktail hour will begin at 5 p.m and dinner will served at 6 p.m. All proceeds will go to the Hill County Republican Party.

Brekke said the Hill Blaine partiy has talked for a while about holding a Fall Harvest dinner, and decided to do so this year, He said they hope it will be an annual event.

After an arduous presidential election year and May’s special congressional election, Brekke said, people have forgotten about next year’s race.

“People I think are a little turned off by politics right now, so we are trying to re-åengage them a little bit,” Brekke said.
